UT KANGRI
EXPEDITION

Tours

A short yet intense 6-day Himalayan climb to UT Kangri (6,070 m), starting from Rumtse. Known for its fast approach and high-altitude gain, the expedition combines scenic camping with the thrill of summiting a lesser-known 6000 m peak. Ideal for experienced trekkers seeking a quick climbing challenge.

Hikking

The route includes a 3-hour drive to road head, followed by short trekking days to an intermediate camp and Base Camp. Summit day is the toughest, requiring 12–14 hours of climbing and descent. Terrain includes steep ascents over snow and rocky slopes, with spectacular mountain vistas.

Travel

Arrive in Leh and acclimatise for at least 3 days before the climb. The expedition starts with a scenic drive towards Taglang La. Best season is summer for stable weather, though UT Kangri is also popular in winter for its unique views.

Support

Includes guides, camping gear, meals, and logistics from Leh. Due to the rapid ascent, prior acclimatisation and experience at high altitude are strongly recommended. Safety support includes first aid, essential climbing equipment, and experienced LMGA guides.

UT Kangri Expedition Overview

The UT Kangri Expedition is a 6-day high-altitude climb in Ladakh, rated Challenging. Located above Rumtse near Taglang La, this 6,070 m peak was first summited in October 2019 by LMGA guides and named after Ladakh’s Union Territory status. The route from road head to Base Camp is shorter than most climbs but involves rapid altitude gain, making prior acclimatisation essential—ideally after a trek like Markha Valley. The climb offers panoramic winter and summer views of the Changthang Plateau and surrounding Himalayan ranges.
